RUINED

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

Grabbing lunch in the cafeteria on her first day at her internship position at Frost Industries, Chloe Girard catches the eye of none other than Ethan Frost, owner and CEO. With guards firmly in place since traumatic events of her youth, she does her best to ward off his persuasive attention, but finds herself inexplicably drawn to this kind, enigmatic and beautiful man.

Ethan is very clear about his intentions, he wants her and he will be patient but won't let up. Unable to resist the magnetic pull he exerts, Chloe finds herself personally involved with Ethan and struggles to keep her secrets closed off from him. But he is too observant and finds a way to break through all her defenses. Once at least part of the truth is out there, however, a chilling realization threatens to break the thin threads of their budding relationship.

*****

Oh my!!! I wasn't happy with the turn this story was taking about three quarter through, but almost at the end, when I got a glimpse of where the plot is taking us (I think), it pulled me right back in again!!! If what I think is true, this is gonna be one big, messed up situation!!!!!

RUINED is NOT a standalone novel, it is part of a serial or trilogy. There is a bit of a happy ending, but then we are left with a gargantuan cliffhanger that, the very last scene of the book, that spun my mind back to reassess what had happened before, and ahead to what was about to unfold..... And let me tell you, it looks like it is going to be an explosive start to the next instalment!!!

Chloe is young, but determined and focused. She hasn't had the most supportive of upbringing, to say the very least, and has absolutely no reason to trust. She has been hurt and let down by those who were supposed to protect her and stand by her. The fact that she started to let Ethan in and allowed that based on her own instinct, was huge. It is imperative that Ethan is completely truthful with her at all times, because that fragile trust once shattered will be near impossible to rebuild.

Ethan however, has not been very open. Oh, he has been straightforward when it comes to his intentions and feelings towards Chloe, but not where it concerns his own demons. Those have never really come up. In fact, Chloe's knowledge of Ethan's background is mostly what she has gleaned from publications and online searches. So when at some point Ethan's history catches up with him, it is Chloe who is completely blindsided and unprepared.

You almost get lost in the apparent 'innocence' of the story, until you become aware there is a dark underbelly you haven't seen yet. There is a lot more story to be told, and although as is probably known by now, serials are not my favourite thing, this will be one I closely follow. If only to see if my projection of where this plot is going, will come to fruition!!!

Tracy Wolff writes with great flow, her heroes are a combination of sweet seduction and dominant heat with a darker edge and her leading ladies smart and capable, if slightly damaged. She can write passion and arousal into a scene without any physical interaction taking place. Always a pleasure to read!

✨A scalding, sensuous love story takes a dark turn!✨
