Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.

Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One.

Or so she thinks.

ARC Review
Release: May

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

Rescued from an abusive household as a teenager, Liam "Hunter" Blake was raised as a Devil's Jack. Loyal to the only family he knows he has learned to despise everything rival MC the Reapers stands for. So when called upon to play a part in ensuring the future of his club, he doesn't feel a moment's hesitation. Especially when he sees the object of his focus, the beautiful daughter of Picnic, president of the Reapers MC.

Of the two girls, Em has always been the more pliant one of the Reapers MC president's daughters. Raised under the strict hand of a domineering father and within the club's firm rules, she has barely had an opportunity to taste life. So when a gorgeous man approaches her with obvious interest, it doesn't take long before she is ready to make the jump. Especially making her feel the way Liam does.

But things aren't always what they appear to be. Timid little girls can turn out to be fiery hell-cats and lifelong adversaries can end up being unexpected allies in the face of a bigger enemy. It's all a matter of perception........

*****

"Love Thine Enemy"

I loved the transformations in this novel. Each so set in their perceptions of the other, in their feelings about the other club, but very little related to their own personal experiences. Once the minds open up enough to share information and look beyond the boundaries of years of traditionally held grudges, there appear to be more parallels and common goals than not. Interesting how that works, isn't it?

On a personal front as well. Look at Em, who for all intents and purposes has always been the mouse, the quiet and compliant one of the two daughters. Yet becomes the most fierce and confrontational when her feelings run deep and true, standing up strong for what she truly believes in. Ironically standing up for values her own father taught her, except he ends up on the receiving end.

I enjoyed the book in many ways, however, there were chunks of it that made me check a few times to see if I was not accidentally re-reading a previous novel. There were some events that were re-addressed from different POV's that had me wondering at the start of the book whether I hadn't inadvertently opened the wrong one. In hindsight, I realized the events were the same, the points of view this time around from Liam and Em, but still it was a little distracting.

Joanna Wylde gives us a bit of insight in the characters, enough to know what makes them tick. A bit of context to get a good feel of where they stand in their interactions. I love that she does so without disappearing into pages of long narrations or inner dialogue, but still manages to convey the necessary information. Never interrupting the flow of the story. A pleasure to read!!

✨A love of duplicitous nature...✨
