Review - TO THE MAX by Elle Aycart

To the Max
by Elle Aycart

4.5 of 5 Stars

Forensic accountant Annie Griffin has always suspected she's a bit jinxed, so when she finds herself 35, single, temporarily homeless, and pregnant on a technicality by a gigolo, her fears are confirmed.

Adrenaline junkie and professional stuntman Max Bowen needs a house-sitter to watch after his pets while he's out of town. Annie needs a place to stay. Standard quid pro quo. No biggie. She can handle that, whatever hellhounds he owns. Until Max, the most sought-after bachelor in the county, comes back ahead of schedule and suddenly she's roommates with a 27-year old sex God who turns out to be so much more than what she expected.

Max might have had the attention span of a humming bird on crack when it comes to women, but that was before Annie. Her quirkiness and sweet contradictions soon captivate him, not that she's inclined to give him the time of the day. With his reputation preceding him, he knows the odds are badly stacked against him, but he will do his best to prove her that he's what she needs, stuck-up socialite grandmothers, doomsday preppers, groupies, pregnancy hormones, and repentant biological dads be damned.

I started to fall in love with the Bowen men in James and Tate's story, as we learned that you can't always judge a book by its cover. Then with Cole and Christy we watched him realized that he could have the love of a beautiful woman even if he had to prove to her just how beautiful she was first. Max stole my heart in true Bowen fashion.

Annie is such a sweetie, always there for the girls when they need her. However being on of the oldest of the CC reading group she sometimes feels like she will never find her prince charming. Even though she is stuck between a rock and a hard place she is determined to work through her problems along. All of her friends are trying to help but she is so darn stubborn. When once again Max is there to witness her when she is down and offers a solution, she is determined to decline. When all her other options fall through she ends up taking him up on his solutions. No big deal, right?

Max is a total adrenaline junkie and always on the go and that includes time spent with the ladies. We have seen his envy of his older brothers and the life they have found with his sisters-in-laws. But he just has not found that one special lady yet. In true Bowen fashion he is just being a nice guy, offering her a place to stay, helping her out where he can. When he ends up coming home early and spending more and more time with Annie, he slowly finds himself preferring to stay home. Some of the appeal of the ladies throwing themselves at him seems to be lost. Maybe that is because someone less extravagant has caught his attention.

What starts out a friendship seems to be slowly changing but will Annie be able to see past some of the hurdles that seem to be standing between them? Can Max show her he can be the type of man she needs and deserves?

Once again you have got me hook line and sinker Elle. Thank you for another wonderful Bowen book.
