Review - ON HIS WATCH by Katie Ruggle

On His Watch
A Search and Rescue Novel

In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...

Ice rescue diver Derek Warner never meant to be a hero. But when two little girls go missing, he's the first in line to bring them home-even if that means scouring the wilderness with the woman he once loved and lost, Artemis Rey.

Artemis has never stopped wanting Derek. Now, racing to find the girls before it's too late, minutes turn to hours. Night falls. Old flames rekindle. And a danger grows in the darkest wilderness that may be more than even the Search and Rescue brotherhood can hope to face...

On His Watch is the pulse-pounding prequel to the riveting Search & Rescue series by Katie Ruggle.

3.5 of 5 Stars

This was a good fast paced introduction to the Field County Rescue Dive Team. With just the right amount of activity to keep the pages turning.

Leave it to the kids to get things rolling. When two little girls go missing while at a field trip everyone falls into action. Search team set up and combing the forest in a snow storm. The anxiety of the search can clearly be felt? Where could they have gone, will they find them in time?

When Derek and Artie get to talking while looking for the girls they come to understand how the past 4 years apart have not really changed their feelings for one another. Derek truly felt he was doing what was best for Artie by letter her go all those years ago. Though his heart really didn't agree, so it was easier just to not be around her and what he thought was a wonderful marriage.

Funny how something so scary as missing children can spark a second chance romance.

I always seem to want more when I read novellas. So I hope we will be seeing more of Derek and Artie as the series moves forward.
