We have seen Charlie and Deacon in the previous Thatch books, so they aren't new characters, but this is their story. So we dig a little deeper into who they really are under the preconceived notions of a super small town. Deacon has been deemed a player, once a player always a player right. Charlie is just the quiet girl, who has had more struggles than most in her life.
The real Charlie is a loving mom that want only the best for her son. She just want to get her life back to normal and do the best she can for Keith and herself. It is time to move on from the events of the past. Start living her life. Now that school is finished she is determined to do just that. When a mysterious stranger finds her notepad and leaves her a note, life seems to spiral off axis for a while. Add to that the sexy Deacon Carver who suddenly thinks he needs to be there for her.
Deacon has enjoyed just living his life. No commitment, certainly no kids, he doesn't do love. His two best friend are the same way, or were until Knox found Harlow again. He is a hard worker though and takes those parts of life seriously. When he discovers a Notepad at "Mama's" he starts to worry about the owner of the notepad. It almost becomes an obsession.
Now that Charlie is back in town again, she seems to be everywhere Deacon goes. Suddenly he finds himself drawn to her. The pain and quilt that she carries over Ben and the past. Keith and his superhero games have drawn Deacon out of his shell. Can Charlie and Deacon find a way to truly connect? Will Charlie be able to truly trust the words of a man again? Will they get their chance at happiness?
This has been such a great series so far. I love the connection that Molly give us with her characters. They have been involved in some way from the very beginning even when not the center of attention. Make you feel like you are at home while reading. I do hope that we will see Graham find his way, before the series is over.
