Review - HARD TO FALL by Marquita Valentine

Wedding bells are ringing—and tempers are flaring—as the Take the Fall series continues in this sweet, sexy novel from the bestselling author of After We Fall (“This beautiful story kept me transfixed until the very end.”—Krista Lakes).

As a hardworking, hard-partying firefighter, Hayden Walker values his career and his freedom. But as the eldest son of a U.S. senator, he agreed long ago to follow in his father’s footsteps and run for office, and that means settling down and marrying the picture-perfect wife. Hayden just isn’t ready for that sort of commitment . . . not with women like beautiful, curvy Saylor Dean—the naughty bridesmaid he recognizes the morning after his buddy’s wedding—tempting Hayden to stay single forever.

The unwanted love child of a well-known politician, Saylor has always felt isolated and alone, her only solace the animal shelter she runs in Forrestville. Then she meets Hayden at her best friend’s wedding. During their impulsive and unforgettable night together, Saylor feels desired like never before—only to wake up and find that Hayden doesn’t remember his drunken proposal, or their hasty marriage, or her. But when the truth comes out, Saylor finds it’s a lot harder to fall out of love than in love.

4 of 5 Stars

For those who have read the series we met Saylor in After We Fall when Eva moves into her apartment. Salyor becomes a good friend to Eva when she is starting over. Other than working with her animals at the shelter and being there for Eva when she is needed, we don't really learn to much about Saylor. She keeps pretty to her self and closed off, with the exception of her Star Trek obsession. The more we get to know Saylor we learn that her taking care of unwanted animals is a reflection of her own loneliness and need for love and affection.

Hayden is Hunter's friend from the Fire Hall who helps him train for his fights. We quickly find out that Hayden is determined to be recognized for his own accomplishments not for the Walker family name or politics. He loves his job as Fire Captain and love to help people in needs. Sure like many men who haven't found their other half yet, he is known as a player.  He has a super soft caring side that doesn't come out too often but it is swoon worthy when it does.

After flirting and having some fun at Hunter and Eva's wedding, Saylor and Hayden find themselves in a little bit of a predicament. Hayden doesn't remember much thanks to over indulging. Saylor is afraid to tell him what truly happened as she is afraid she will loose him completely. When the truth comes to light, will Hayden run scared? Will they work out things and continue to see where they might end up? Can they find love from celabrating someone elses happiness?

I like that some of the characters from the previous books are carried forward in the series, it kind of makes me feel at home with old friends while reading. Marquita crates a chemistry between her characters that has you wanting more, reading when you need to get other things done, they will wait, right. Give Saylor and Hayden a try.
