Review - TOP SHELF by Kelly Jamieson

TOP SHELF
Releasing: October 18, 2016

Whether it’s a clutch goal or a cocktail, nothing beats “top shelf.” In this novel from the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series, a fun-loving jock and an ambitious career woman mix business with pleasure.

Not only is Jared Rupp one of the stars of the NHL’s Chicago Aces, he’s also the owner of the Sin Bin, the after-hours hot spot where the whole team hangs out. Lately, Jared can’t take his eyes off the woman he’s hired to give the Bin a more modern feel: a sexy, sophisticated consultant who has carved out a niche updating drink menus. She’s as passionate about her career as Jared is about hockey—and yet he can’t help wondering what kind of cocktail she really wants.

In her line of work, Sidney Frayne is used to guys hitting on her in bars, but Jared gets her hot enough to burst into flames. When he’s wining and dining her, he’s sophisticated as hell; on the rink, he’s a testosterone-fueled powerhouse. Still, Sidney’s bitter divorce taught her to keep her emotions on ice. With her busy schedule—and Jared’s playboy reputation—she’s not sure she’s ready for a fling. Because if she lets Jared into her bed, she just may have to let him into her heart.

4 of 5 Stars

Those that have read the Aces Series so far have watched Jared in the background. We know he is a serious hockey player who owns the Sin Bin that they gang like to frequent. Other than him seeming to get along just fine with the ladies we haven't really gotten to know him well. As we read on in this book we really see his passion for hockey, as we watch him struggle with the lack of drive from some teammates. He is usually the one to just smile and let things roll off his back but he is at a point where sometimes things just need to be said. His drive to own/run a successful restaurant is more than having something to do when his hockey career is over, he knows what it is like to have little and is determined not to ever be there again.

Sidney is finally getting back on her feet in full force. After her divorce from her cheating ex-husband she has taken the no strings attached, not going there again attitude. Taking the things she knows best, marketing and mixoligy and creating a consultant job that she loves. Life is pretty darn good right now even if she finds herself a little lonely from time to time. She is funny and charismatic, when she lets her hair down and just enjoys life.

When Sidney finds herself in the Sin Bin for a drink, she does what she does best and looks over the bar. Sharing her feelings with the sexy man beside her she never expected him to be the owner. There is an easy chemistry between Sidney and Jared from the very beginning.  The more time they spend together the more time they want to spend with each other, even though neither are looking for anything relationship like. Will they be able to keep this thing at arms length? Can they have their fun and not let their hearts get involved?

I love that Kelly does such a great job of keeping the series characters still involved and keeps giving us more insight to new possible characters to come. There is always enough back story to keep you wondering if there will be more in the series and who will be the next one to get their story. Looking forward to more Aces Hockey.
