WHISPERED PRAYERS OF A GIRL by Alex Grayson

A tortured soul meets a damaged family…
A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl… Can the four come together and help heal each other? Or will fear of the unknown and guilt about the past keep them apart?

Her whispered prayers break her...
At night, as she’s drifting off to sleep, I press my ear to the door and listen to her heart-wrenching pleas. Her words are agony to my healing heart, but I cherish the sound of them, for that’s the only time I ever hear my beautiful daughter speak. Since her father died two years ago, she’s grown quiet and withdrawn. Cat’s Valley was to be our new beginning, a place where my family and I can heal, but what we find there is so much more.

Scars mar his body. Pain has left him in pieces…
Four years ago, I lost the two things I cherished most in the world. They were ripped from my arms in the most painful and cruel way. Since then, I’ve kept to myself, preferring to stay away from the pitying looks and murmured rumors. Everything changed when she and her children barged into my life. It was an accident, and I don’t deserve them, but now that they’re here, I’m not sure I can let them go.

4.5 Stars

This was a re-read for me, I loved this book when I read it. I will admit that the voices of the narrators were not what I had pictured in my head so it did take a little bit for me to get into the book this time around but when I settled in I loved the content just as much as the first time.

From the synopsis of this book it is clear that you are not setting yourself up for a warm and fuzzy read, but you are setting yourself up for an emotional journey of healing and slow steps to moving forward from substantial loss.

Alexander has let his loss take over his life in every way over the past 4 years. He wears his scars from that horrific night for everyone to see, and sometimes the gossip and murmurs are just too much to endure. Many would say he has removed himself from society as much as possible to shield himself from further pain. Watching him with his horses and dog, you can clearly see deep down he is a strong loving man. When he sees that truck stranded and goes to help the last thing he was ready for was Gwen and her children.

Gwen has uprooted her children and moved them to make a new start. Just a couple of years after loosing her husband to early to a sudden heart attack. Each of them are dealing with the loss in a different ways, but Gwen has to keep herself moving forward for her children in hopes to help them move along. They are quick to fall in love with the new small town and it's residents. Will this move help Gwen bring her little girl back? Will she find a way to truly move forward?

The last think Alexander was looking for was relationship and family, can Gwen and her children bring that caring man back to life while healing themselves?

Ms. Grayson does a wonderful job of expressing the feelings of her characters. It is beautiful to watch how a need to help another person with their grief, can silently start the healing process within yourself as well. Sometimes it takes a shared understand to really let someone in. I love that Alex has used animals in the healing process and shows the strong connection that can be formed. A super read that help to remind us that life is to short and should be lived to the fullest, you never know when things can change.
