My rating: 4.5 of 5 ⭐️

Four years ago Lea Baker was a bit shy and self-conscious when she met Colby Davis for the first time. But Colby saw something in her and took her under his wing and introduced her to all his friends. Before long, she was one of them and she and Colby were best buds.

Except that, Lea has felt much more than friendship for Colby all this time and has kept that to herself. Now that she is leaving for college and Colby is about to pursue his dreams, too much alcohol at a party causes the truth to slip out.

Fantastic writing by Sloan Johnson and a great start to what promises to be an amazing serial!

This is NOT a standalone book, but instead the first of a series, and a bit of a change of speed for Sloan Johnson, but what a nice surprise it is!

A young adult story, setting out at the beginning of a transitional period in the lives of two 'friends', who have just discovered that the depth of the feelings they have for each other can no longer be kept a secret. This, just as they are about to set off on their individual paths, which of course, creates some complications.

The novella provides the setting, context and the solid base on which I can easily see an entire series built. And with an interesting plot direction I am eager to pursue, I am already impatient for the next book to come out!

✨A moving, vibrant and tender account of transitions.✨

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s body. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.
Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?
Now, Sloan is a tattooed, purple haired mom of two kids, one of which was a thank you present to her husband for letting her get a Staffordshire Terrier with more anxiety issues than Sloan has, which is saying something. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself in a good book and forget that she has somewhere to be.
