As the youngest and most talented son of the NHL Commissioner, Matty had found the burden of family expectations almost too heavy to carry on even his broad shoulders. He had no intention of getting involved in a relationship with Wells. But the heart he’d given up for dead had other ideas.
Their affair was intense and overwhelming, but when Matty couldn’t bring himself to come out and admit he wanted a public future with the man he loved, Wells had no choice but to honor his vow to live openly…and leave Matty behind.
But then he learns Wells is marrying another, and Matty knows he can't let that happen. Can he throw down his gloves and embrace his future with both hands? Or will he pull the door to his closet shut once more?
4 of 5 Stars
We have gotten to know Wells a little over the past few books and I was excited that he was going to get his story. Being a gay man in the world of hockey is certainly easier in today's society than it was years ago. I love that Wells is open about his sexuality and wants people to know him for him. It is easy to see his struggle with having to hide his affections, not that he doesn't understand to some extent. He is just beyond that point in his life. His love is strong and he just wants to shout it from the rooftop.
Matty had struggled with keeping his sexuality a secret for so long. He knows that his father will not accept it and it kills him. He has worked so hard and still feels that he does not have the love from his father that he should. Adding this to the mix will only make things worse. But, when you find the love of your life and loose that because of your insecurities it makes you rethink things. Is loosing Wells worth It? Will his family come around and accept him as he is?
I think Ms Also did a good job of portraying some of the struggles and hurdles that one my encounter. I liked that the story was more focused on the emotional aspects of the relationship and even though there was some sex, it didn't overpower the story. You were able to connect with the characters through their emotions.

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?
