The First Love by Jennifer Bernard is now live!

Available on All Platforms

Who could ever forget that summer in Lake Bittersweet…

It’s been seventeen years since Carly stepped foot in the sleepy lakeside community where she experienced her first love…and her first heartbreak. Since then, she’s struggled with her confidence, which is why she’s shocked that her father, rock legend Steven Gault, chose her as the executor of his will. Besides dealing with his shut-down music club and mountain of bills, did he have a reason to lure her back to Lake Bittersweet…like facing the boy who shattered her heart?

Carly Gault. The girl who got away. The girl he gave away. The moment he sees her, Fire Chief Thomas Cooper is hurled back in time to the summer that changed his life. He made the choice to put his family first, but Thomas has never forgotten the passionate, loving girl with the smoky-green gaze. She’s more beautiful than ever—but since that summer, his family has expanded in a way Carly may never, ever understand.

As long-ago secrets come to light, passion reignites between Carly and Thomas. But will one last shocker make it all go up in smoke like the last summer bonfire?

4 Stars

This was a promising start to a new series. The author does a good job at giving us a lay of the land and the characters that we can expect to see along the way. There are plenty of emotions stirring about in this second chance, small town story.

Thomas has been doing what needs to be done since he was a teenager. Moving his brothers to Lake Bittersweet a little unconventionally to help make sure they got the life they deserved. Letting go of his first love in the process. Becoming a single father and doing everything he can to make sure Danny grows up with pride and respect. Passionate about his job as Fire Chief. He is thrown for a little loop when Carly comes back to town to deal with Gualt's estate.

Carly is the fixer of things. She has spent her life helping everyone look after whatever needs to be done. And though she has found her confidence and is able to take charge of many situations. She is struggling to find her home, her place where she can be and thrive. The closest she has come to that is her tutoring job and helping these kids find their confidence. Not close with her father by any means she is surprised to learn he is leaving things for her to sort out with his estate.

This trip back to Bittersweet has so much in store for Carly. Will she be able to accept the past for what it was and willing to more forward with what it can be? Can she fight the Aldermen of Bittersweet and make something new of the Blue Drake? Will she find that lost love that was once left behind?

Looking forward to Connor's story.
