Title: Before I'm Gone

Author: Heidi McLaughlin

Genre: Contemporary/ women Fiction

Release Date: November 7, 2023

New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin tells a poignant story about living life to the fullest—and savoring the small moments along the way.

Palmer Sinclair has never needed anyone’s help. A successful loan officer, she’s all work and no play. But when splitting headaches and blurred vision begin to affect her job, she begrudgingly sees a doctor and receives a diagnosis that leaves her shaken to her core and with little time left. Facing an uncertain future, Palmer makes a bucket list, determined to do the things she’d only dreamed of before she goes.

Kent Wagner has dedicated his life to helping others. An army medic turned paramedic, he’s a regular at Palmer’s bank who makes his monthly car loan payments in person just to see her radiant smile. After responding to not one but two 911 calls involving Palmer, he learns about her bucket list. Touched by her circumstances—and needing a distraction from his own—Kent offers to take Palmer to the places on her list.

Neither is prepared for the emotional journey ahead…or how little time they have left together, but the friendship they find in that brief time might be the most lasting legacy of all.

4.5 Emotionally Heartwrentching Stars

This book is so well written that even when I knew it was sad and I was on the brink of tears, Ms McLaughlin was still able to find some smiles and giggles out of me. So many up many ups and downs, times I wanted to give Palmer a hug.

As we follow Palmer and her attempt to put herself out there and live her best life in the few months she has remaining of her life, without the treatments that will inevitiably make her sick. When she made this decision, she figured why not, there was nobody to spend any longer with anyway. Palmer never dreamed of someone like Kent who would drop everything and driver her around the US to do all her bucket list things.

Kent has also recevied some news that kind of knocked him on his butt. He felt he needed a little bit of time to get away and regroup. When he learned of Palmer's situation and her thoughts on her bucket list he figured why not. He was a medic after all and could be of help to her as things started to get worse. He never thought he was setting himself up for love and a deeper heartbreak. Always the sweet kind gentleman, Kent went out of his way to make Palmer feel cared for and looked after.

This book is a very good reminder to live you life while you can, don't continue to wait for tomorrow or for a better time. You never know how many tomorrows you will have.
