I didn't know it at the time.
He came in like a handsome stranger and blew me off my feet.
I fell madly in love, like the naive girl I am.
Then he left me high and dry.
Turns out, I was nothing more than a business plan for billionaire playboy, Marcus Tandem.
He needed to be married in order to obtain his grandfathers business, and I was the poor victim in his path.
I believed in what we had, until the truth reared its ugly head.
I never meant anything to Marcus. Not a damned thing.
With my world spinning on its axis, the girl I once was has long since died.
Instead he left me as this empty, emotionless shell.

Oh boy….. This one feels soooo rushed. As I was reading it I kept wondering what the hell just happened.
Both Katia and Marcus are messed up. No really, I mean they are messed up in a serious way. Because yes they’ve had it rough, and yes they had some hard knocks in life, but holy crap… they are honestly going over the top emotionally. The story tumbles from one dramatic scene straight into another one. It’s a veritable drama fest. And our hero and heroin don’t seem to learn…. or rather, they keep repeating actions they have regretted in the past. Where is the common sense??
Let’s focus on some great things first. The interaction between Katia and her newly discovered siblings is wonderful. Ford is a man after my heart, with a gruff exterior but a heart a mile wide and the other two brothers are hilariously saucy, but no less protective of their sister. It reminded me a lot of growing up in a houseful of boys.
Katia’s little ‘surprise’ is a heart melter… for sure. In every sense of the word, and brings a certain gentling balance to the surplus of angst and testosterone.
But it didn’t take away the sense this book was ‘rushed’. There were some situational discrepancies, the most prominent of which is a scene where Katia comes out of the shower, is wrapped in a towel, walks over to the bed and is described to undress before sliding into bed. Hmmmm…..
A lot of this book is so fast paced, you almost wouldn’t notice some of these ‘oopsies', but this one stood out.
I did like the introduction of Jahred…. he sounds like a very interesting character and I also enjoyed getting a closer gander at Katia’s brother Ford.
Overall I’m sorry it didn’t quite live up to the promise of book #1, but if you are looking for closure, you will find it here.
