Praised by Penelope Ward as “a unique story line with multiple layers to it,” Sarah Robinson’s Saving a Legend goes another round with the brooding Kavanagh brothers: MMA fighters who won’t call it quits in the ring, or in romance.

His family’s gym has produced a roster of mixed martial arts legends, but so far Kieran Kavanagh hasn’t followed in their footsteps. After a brawl lands him in jail, Kieran is assigned to work at a center for at-risk youth. Though given a second chance, Kieran’s simply going through the motions—until he meets one very special kid, Shea Doherty, and falls hard for her very beautiful, very grown-up big sister, Fiona. The trouble is, Kieran’s best opening moves are getting him nowhere fast.

Fiona Doherty has too many responsibilities to fool around, especially now that she has custody of Shea. Sure, she’d love to find a devoted partner. But she won’t jeopardize her sister’s happiness—or risk revealing her tortured past—on a love-’em-and-leave-’em type of guy like Kieran . . . so it’s up to him to prove her wrong. As Fiona spends more time with Kieran, she starts to see a softer side of the reckless warrior. Now she must admit that when it comes to the possibility of real love, well . . . there’s a fighting chance.

4 of 5 Stars

Kieran has had 2 years to think about what he wants to do with his life moving forward. He is still not really sure what that looks like yet. He once had a chance at being a professional MMA fighter just like his big brother Rory. But the strictness of the training & requirements left him wanting more. Complying with his parole he throws himself into his community service. He is enjoying working with the kid and giving them something they wouldn't normally have. Shea quickly find a place in heart. When he realizes that she is the sister to Fiona "flower girl" he wants to look out for her even more. Not normally one for relationships but Fiona has caught his eye. He works hard to get her attention and convince her that he is not just around for a fling.

Fiona is at her maximum limit with her flower shop, caring for Shea and trying to keep them in a good place. Since taking over Shea's care after her mother passed away. Life is hard and lonely but she doesn't let that get her down. There isn't time for Kieran or any man for that matter. Or so she tries to convince herself. When he is relentless, and showing his caring and compassion for her and Shea, her will slowly subsides.

As we watch this relationship grow, we see these characters go through the forgiveness process. They need to forgive themselves for their past and not let it dictate who they become. Learn to love and let other love them back.

I loved the part Shea and her autism plays in this book. Even when people don't completely understand they can have compassion and care for others.

I am enjoying this series and can't wait for Kane's story.
