Author: Freya Barker
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: November 12, 2019

As author Tahlula Rae has discovered; success is a double-edged sword. Leading a quiet and anonymous life, she isn’t prepared for the hateful backlash when her latest book hit the lists, propelling her into the limelight. No longer feeling safe in Denver, she takes her laptop and dog, Luke, and moves to the mountains around Durango, where her peaceful solitude is disrupted when a red-bearded man knocks on her door.
While one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel, is relatively content with his life, he can’t escape the sense something’s missing. When on fire-safety housecalls, he finds himself staring into a pair of soulful, copper-colored eyes sparking a deep interest. Discovering the exotic-looking woman may be in more trouble than he can handle, he tries—yet fails—to keep his distance.
When Tahlula offers San Antonio firefighters, Moose and Penelope Jacobs, temporary lodging, as they help fight seasonal wildfires, Evan’s relieved she’s no longer alone on the mountain. Yet when her troubles become outright threats on her life, his focus has to be keeping Tahlula safe.

Yay!!!! Evan is getting his story and damn it is a good one. I liked Evan when he was first introduced in this series but in the end felt he got a little bit shafted. Ms. Barker did good by Evan giving him a sizzling chemistry with a wonderful strong independent woman that keeps him on his toes.
Evan loves his job as a fire fighter and the community family he has with his team at the hall. His mother is close and he spends quality time with her. But at this point in his life he is starting to feel like he might not find that one true love and the family that he once dreamed about. Yes guys do dream too. When the normal calls of a the hot fire season send him door to door to check to make sure everyone is doing their part, he is quickly enamoured by the beautiful woman he finds up on the hill.
Tahlula is a writer who has decided that she is no longer going to wait for her Mr. Right. Making the decision to become a single mother was an fairly easy one for her, since she was raised by a single mom until she passed when she was 11 years old. She doesn't give her trust easily and even less so since she has dealt with some racial issues in the past year. Finding herself in a new town with a solid plan, she is determined to give her new family the best she can. Having her brother close is a great draw to her new surroundings.
The chemistry between Evan and Tahlula is strong from the first sighting. When they realize that what was thought to be a forest fire was set on purpose in her back yard, Evan's protective side comes out full force. She might not be ready for all that, but for some reason she has a quick trust in Evan and is reluctantly willing to let him help and be there for her. The twists and turns in this plot are smooth and intriguing. Keeping you on your toes and reading to uncover the mystery. I love that Ms. Barker is not afraid to tackle some of the hard topics, like biracial relationships that we get in this book.
I am loving this series full of wonderful characters and the bringing back some old friends from previous series. I am also loving the draw from Susan Stoker's characters in this cross over world.

Freya Barker loves writing about ordinary people with extraordinary stories.
Driven to make her books about 'real' people; with characters who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, thrills and chills, and their own slice of happy.
A recipient of the RomCon “Reader’s Choice” Award for best first book, “Slim To None”, and Finalist for the Kindle Book Award with “From Dust”, Freya has not slowed down.
She continues to add to her rapidly growing collection of published novels as she spins story after story with an endless supply of bruised and dented characters, vying for attention!
