Who doesn't excited for all a new series brings? New characters, new settings, different adventures and of course Freya Barkers riddling suspense and mystery buried deep in the plot. I was turning pages until well after bedtime, sad to get to the end but hopeful for what comes next.
Jonas comes across as a hard and gruff rancher, running his stud business and mountain tracking business with his Ex-special ops buddies. His teddy bear side shows through pretty quickly when he realizes someone is in need. Looking after his staff in a way many wouldn't. Once he gets over the surprise that the new horse handler from the rescue isn't a man, and gives her a chance to do her work. He is more surprised that he likes her company and can't stop thinking about her.
Alex is enjoying the change of scenery as she has moved her horse rescue business to Montana with her friend and co-worker. Slowly getting a lay of her land and getting her name out in the community. Worried about her son who is off fighting with world with Uncle Sam, praying she doesn't loose him like she did her husband all those years ago. She is a feisty strong willed woman determined to hold her place in the horse community. When things start happening near her property edge, she isn't quick to back down and willing to let the FBI and Homeland Security in her space to find the bad guys.
Freya's mature characters are quick to decided what they want and not waste time with dancing in circles. Life is too short and if you wait too long you might miss the ride. Loads of chemistry between Jonas and Alex to warm the pages as they work side by side to solve the mystery.
Impatiently waiting to see where she takes us next in the Montana Mountains.
