Release Blitz & Review - CAPTIVATING ANIKA by Freya Barker

Title: Captivating Anika (On Call, #9)

Author: Freya Barker

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: May 14, 2024

Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

Anika Jones has her future carefully plotted out and is checking the boxes, one by one, despite the bumps thrown in her path. This last one is a challenge, but she manages to stay on track; her salon is thriving, and she just bought a house. Unfortunately, when one of her employees runs into trouble, she inevitably gets sucked in, throwing her carefully paced life off-balance. It doesn’t help a friend, who’s been ghosting her for a year, suddenly makes an appearance.

He was born to pig farming, but for Noah (Hog) Hodgekins fighting fires is his calling. He wasted too many years honoring a legacy he wants no part of. But now that he’s finally free from family obligations, there’s nothing holding him back from pursuing the life he’s been dreaming of. The first step is mending bridges with the one person who is central to that future, but she comes with her own challenges, family and otherwise.

Instead of treading carefully to gain her heart, he ends up throwing caution to the wind when her recent string of bad luck lands the FBI on her doorstep.

5 Stars

Ms Barker has pulled out all the stops with this book, this series just keeps getting better and better. She had me stumped this time as I tried to follow the twists and turns in the suspense while loving Anika & Hog. I love that she once again brings us one of her famous kick ass heroines, who don't need to rely on anyone but fight to stand on their own, through all their personal flaws.

Anika is a strong business owner who is working her way through a diagnosis of RA and Fibro. Finding ways to help her body work with her instead of against her. All the while being a boss her staff enjoy spending time with. Determined to no need to rely on others, she keeps to herself where she can.

Hog was a wonderful surprise as the quiet bystander finally gets his story. His past helps to explain a little but his maturity also help his focus be solid in what he wants. Anika is it and he is determined to let her shine while being her rock to lean on.

I love that Ms Barker has brought us some fun and light with her secondary characters. Reminding us that the world is far from black and white, we need to welcome the splashes of color, let them be who they are.
