Love and hate aren’t all that different.

Two sides of the same coin, the yin and the yang.

Once upon a time, Jason Ross loved me. And now that he knows what I’ve done, I see the love and the hate warring within him.

I see the way he looks at me.

The way he wonders how I could do the things I’ve done.

I hear it in the way he begs me to stop, to leave this life and run away with him.

But there’s only one way I’m leaving LA.

And that’ll be when Dornan and the rest of his sons are dead and buried.

Jase might forgive me for what I’ve done.

But will he forgive me for the crimes I’m yet to commit?

My rating: 5 of 5 ⭐️

The blast has lifted any final doubts Jase might have had about Sammi's true identity and he now sees her more clearly than before.  Coming to terms with that reality and its implications is taking its toll, leaving him torn between elation and disgust. But that won't stop him from protecting her at all cost.

The attempt to try and finish what she started all at once did not have the outcome Sammi/Juliette had hoped for. She may have disabled the main focus of her hatred, but as long as he is breathing, her mission is not complete. This is the closest she has come to losing her steel resolve, and Jase the only one able to shake it.

*****

Chills!!! Absolute chills!!

And not just because of a doozy of a final chapter.... Nope. Because of a very emotionally taxing and painful series of revelations this instalment holds. My goodness! I was experiencing some of the sheer gut-pain I imagine Jase must have felt upon realizing who he had before him. The conflicted feelings he must feel and how it would mess with someone's head.
Some pretty interesting hints to new revelations are being dropped as well, in reference to Jase and his past with his father. Some serious questions are being asked and some pretty evasive answers are given, which leads one to think there is a whole area of darkness yet to be explored.

As for Juliette, she cracks in this novella. Truly cracks when she, for the first time, seems to 'feel' genuine emotions other than hatred again. Before she was able to identify and categorize, but not truly experience emotion other than the enjoyment she received from the pain imposed on the subjects of her hatred. But here, she has an opportunity to derive pleasure from a different emotional motivation and it brings her to her knees. Her stubborn resolve wins out, however, and the years of preparation don't allow her to dismiss her plans that easily.

Yet another level of intensity Lili St. Germain brings us to. This novella giving us less of the physical brutality, but showing a tremendous amount of insight in the mental anguish to those subjected and those in witness.

✨Things just got real.... and more terrifying!!✨
